MDF and Plywood Supply to Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of Asia's fastest-growing furniture and joinery markets, and its buyers run on tight margins and tight lead times. Both reward getting the specification and the documents right the first time.

What Bangladesh Buyers Actually Order

The workhorse products are plain MDF for furniture and joinery, film-faced plywood for construction formwork, and melamine-faced MDF for ready-to-assemble furniture. The furniture makers who export to Europe and the US increasingly ask for E1 or CARB P2 formaldehyde grades, because their own buyers require it. A mill that can hold an E1 test report is worth more than one that quotes E2 cheaper but cannot prove it.

Chittagong and the Port Reality

Chittagong (Chattogram) is the main gateway; Mongla handles a smaller share. Both are busy, and demurrage and port storage add up fast when documents are late or a certificate is missing. The practical rule is to have the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin consistent before the vessel sails, so the consignee can clear without a hold.

BSTI and What It Actually Requires

Listed panel products need BSTI (Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution) certification before clearance, and the importer needs the import registration in order. We cannot issue BSTI — the producing mill and the importer carry it — but we verify which mill can actually supply the certificate for the grade you are buying, before the order is placed, not after the container arrives.

Why a Price per Sheet in Taka Misleads

Quoting in Bangladeshi taka hides two moving parts: the exchange rate and the duty that lands on top of the CIF value. A price per cubic metre in USD, plus the duty line your broker confirms, is the only number that compares fairly between two suppliers. We quote FOB Qingdao in USD per cubic metre and let you add the freight and duty you already know.

Splitting a Container

Few Bangladesh buyers fill a 40HQ with one product every month. A mixed container — MDF plus film-faced plywood plus melamine board — hits the freight efficiency that a single product cannot. The constraint is loading order and weight, which we plan with the destination port and the demurrage clock in mind.

What to Put in the Order

Thickness, grade and formaldehyde class, sheet size, quantity, destination port, and the date you need the goods in Chattogram. Those six lines are enough to start. We come back with the mills that can hold the certificate and the lead time, and a price per cubic metre.

Send Your Panel List

Give us the destination market, the thickness and the grade your customer asked for. We come back with the mill options, the certificate each one can supply, and a price per cubic metre.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical minimum order for Bangladesh?

One container is the normal shape of an order, but below that we work in mixed loads rather than refusing the order. The practical floor is set by how the bundles divide and what fits a 20GP, not by a policy figure.

Which port should the container go to — Chittagong or Mongla?

Chittagong (Chattogram) is the default because it is the main gateway and has the most sailing options. Mongla can save inland cost for some buyers; we compare the sailing and the inland leg before booking instead of defaulting.

Do you arrange BSTI?

No — BSTI is issued in Bangladesh against the importer and the mill’s certificate. What we do is confirm before the order that the mill you are buying from can actually supply the BSTI-required test report for the grade, so the certificate is not a surprise at clearance.

Is the board sold to Bangladesh different from the export standard?

The board itself is the same export grade; what changes is the paperwork and the formaldehyde class your customer requires. Buyers exporting furniture to the EU or US usually need E1 or CARB P2, and we source to that standard rather than to the lowest local price.

Why is a price per sheet in taka hard to compare?

Because the taka figure mixes the exchange rate and the duty with the board price. A price per cubic metre in USD, plus your broker’s duty line, is the only number that compares two suppliers fairly.

Do you have a warehouse in Dhaka?

No. We are a sourcing and export partner in China, not a distributor in Bangladesh. The goods are inspected in China before loading and shipped to your port; we do not hold stock in Dhaka.
